According to one flight expert, one popular accessory should not be worn when passing through the airport.
NetFlights travel expert Amanda Parker has issued an alarm about wearing sunglasses at the airport. They may be comfortable in bright light, but this common summer accessory should be avoided at any cost.
She said: “There are no rules for wearing hoods or sunglasses at the airport – apart from the security zones where they need to be removed – but in general, it's highly discouraged when not needed, as it can raise doubts, interfere with facial recognition techniques and attract unwanted attention.”
The airport is a highly secure environment, so wearing a hoodie that is pulled tightly over your head with dark sunglasses indoors will make you stand out like a thumbs up.
She continued. “Many airports use facial recognition systems for security, so hoods and sunglasses can hinder the ability to meet passport photos and their skills.
“If the system is unable to make the right match, it could be pulled aside due to manual screening in automatic lanes or delays in experience.
“Ironically, covering your face can have the opposite effect. Your best option is to be visible and always seem accessible.”
How to stay safe at the airport
If you want to make your airport journey as smooth as possible, experts recommend the following tips that everyone should follow on your next holiday.
Patient and cue. When you're at the airport, line up without communicating or busy. This will keep you alert at the airport, but will calm and relax your airport experience.
Please reduce the noise. Playing a loud phone, conversation, or loud video can interfere with others around the airport. If you need to use headphones when listening to music or make a call, answer the phone in a quiet area at the airport to minimize your voice.
Please wear the appropriate clothes. The airport is busy and security-conscious, so you should always remain friendly. Sunglasses are not always advised and should be removed when passing security anyway, so wear comfortable clothes that don't unnecessarily hide your identity.
