Have you ever noticed that you were stabbed by a horrible bill for a horrible meal during your holiday? You may have fallen prey to tourist traps. These facilities are particularly targeted at holiday makers who have empty prices and food that are hardly similar to authentic local fares.

Unfortunately, identifying the cons of these dishes can prove challenging, especially when you are new to the area and do not speak the local language. Veteran globetrotters have revealed their innocent ways to dodge these dietary disasters, and thankfully there are a few simple warning signs to be aware of.

    Reddit user Spaghetticola explained:

“As someone else commented, they are around major tourist attractions and often have vast outdoor seating.

“The location alone cannot direct tourist traps, but there are two big teals. One is the outside promoter. Let's take a look at the waiter standing next to the menu, speaking English and attracting people.

“These people are basically salesmen who dressed up the waiters, and it would be best if they were politely declined or not making eye contact in the first place.”

These promotions may attempt to seduce unsuspecting tourists into a dining facility without revealing the real cost until it's too late.

    The user continued.

A fellow traveler said, “Avoid restaurants that are too close to tourist attractions and avoid taking photos of menus outside the restaurant.

“Some of them may try to charge you once during that time, or they may try to reach the average price of the general one.”

For those who find it difficult to choose a restaurant, consider seeking advice from hotel staff who can point you to your favorite spot.

By moving away from tourist hotspots, you could lead to discovering more affordable dining options that are popular with locals.
