Malaysia Airlines' Pro-Malaysia Airlines Group (MAG) has exercised its 20 Airbus A330-900 option and doubled its original commitment to advance its fleet renewal efforts.
Announced in Paris, a bystander of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's national visit to France, the deal confirms that the national airline will become one of the largest A330Neo operators in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to Airbus, the new aircraft will be powered by the Rolls Roy Trent 7000 engine.
In 2022, Mag announced its commitment for the 20 A330Neos. This includes 10 direct orders and 10 leased from Avolon.
Malaysia Airlines received its first A330-900 in November last year after facing delivery delays. Currently, we operate four A330Neos, with six more scheduled to be released this year.
The remaining 10 will be delivered by 2028 and will replace the old A330CEOS, STASS MAG.
MAG Managing Director Izham Ismail said: “This addition order strengthens our long-term vision of supporting sustainable growth, providing consistent value to our passengers and building a future-ready fleet that will strengthen our competitiveness in key markets.”
MAG's A330Neo contract was announced hours after compatriot Airasia disclosed the corporate orders for 50 A321XLRS, with an option to convert another 20 jets.
