    Tourism and hospitality officials from Africa and across the Indian Ocean were convened to show off their opening legs of the World Travel Awards in Tanzania.


    The winners of the World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2025 held at Johari Rotana in Dar Es Salaam included the Maldives, which was selected as “Major Destinations in the Indian Ocean” and “Major Green Destinations in the Indian Ocean”. The famous Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club claimed to be “a major hotel in Africa” ​​and Diamond Leisure Beach & Golf Resort was praised as “a major resort in Africa.”


    Tanzania has solidified its position as a tourism powerhouse and has gathered the title of “major destinations in Africa.” The legendary Serengeti National Park claimed the crown of “the major national parks of Africa,” while the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro won “the major mountain national parks of Africa,” and Zanzibar was named “the major beach destination of Africa.”


    The buoyancy of Africa's gorgeous hospitality sector is reflected in the newcomer category of “Africa's major new hotels”, with Tanzania's Singatir Milele winning from the stellar field of entry. Meanwhile, the Kahu Atoll Resort in the JW Marriott Maldives brings together “major new resorts in the Indian Ocean” and reflects the dynamism of tourism in the region.


    In the aviation sector, Kenya Airlines secured the “large African airline” and Dar es Salaam's Julius Njerere International Airport has been awarded the title “major airport in Africa.”


    Port of Cape Town was named “African Major Cruise Port” and Durban ICC was named “African Major Conference & Conference Centre.”

    Other winners include the Eden Bleu Hotel and Seychelles (“Large Conference Hotel in the Indian Ocean”). Chile Island, Kenya (“Africa's major private island resort”); Go Places ('Kenya's major destination management company'); Jumeirah Thanda Safari (“South Africa's major luxury safari villa”).
