Regional turboprop manufacturer ATR has continued its recent success in sales, pre-ordering 16 units of orders from Air Algerie with a 16 ATR 72-600.
The new 72-person seater is expected to arrive between 2026 and 2028 to be operated by the domestic airline, a newly created subsidiary of the domestic airline.
Domestic airlines will focus on improving connectivity across Algeria, particularly in the country's southern part of the country.
Air Algerie is an existing operator of twin turboprops, boasting a fleet of 12 ships, ranging from 72 to 500, and three -600, ordered directly from the manufacturer in 2008 and 2014.
The agreement also includes the ATR 72-600 full flight simulator (the first full flight simulator in Africa) to be installed at Air Algerie's existing training centre.
At the halfway point this year, ATR had already booked 30 orders, including 19 aircraft contracts from Taiwan's Uni Air, for a total of 56 orders in 2024.
