Ethiopia recorded its highest foreign tourist arrivals in history, according to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who shared the figures during the 42nd regular session of national representatives. The Prime Minister emphasized that more than 1.3 million foreign visitors have entered the country. This is driven primarily by a significant increase in international conferences. Domestic tourism has also skyrocketed, with 1.5 million people visiting Addis Ababa's important landmarks, including Unity Park and Science Museum, with over 5 billion Birr earning revenue.
The Prime Minister credited his achievements in tourism growth, strategic reform and infrastructure development, including strengthening immigration procedures, expanding Ethiopian Airlines, and improving hospitality and national appeal. Ethiopian airlines added 13 new aircraft to their fleet (180 in total), introduced six new international routes, increased destination counts to 136, and transported over 19 million passengers. Tourism, along with the aviation and other services sectors, is positioned as a key contributor to Ethiopia's economic diversification and global connections.
