New hand luggage rules have been introduced for a variety of airlines flying to and from European destinations, including Ryanair, Tui, EasyJet and Jet2.
The new rules for carry-on baggage standardized the dimensions of luggage that allow planes to dimension carry-on baggage by 17 European carriers automatically signing up to follow the new rules. Airlines 4 Europe, whose members include EasyJet, Jet2, Tui, Ryanair, and Norway, Aegean and Airfranceklm, have announced new rules for baggage.
That means that carry-on baggage for your flight is guaranteed free of charge if it fits in a 40x30x15cm space. This means that it can fit under the front seat as a personal item.
In a statement, A4E stated: “Today, the European airlines (A4E) have confirmed that member airlines have begun applying 40 x 30 x 15 cm guaranteed dimensions to items in cabin luggage that are normally placed in front of “personal items” – agreed by members last month.
“The contract reached June 5th, 2025 and has set the dimensions of personal items. Passengers can already be brought into the cabin at no additional charge. It is defined as an unchecked bag with “40 x 30 x 15 cm dimensions.”
“All A4E airlines will deploy guaranteed dimensions and install them by the end of the summer 2025 season.
“Carriers will continue to allow larger personal items at their discretion, as is the case with many A4E airlines today.
“Standardized cabin bag sizes have been on the Brussels agenda for many years and recently at the request of former transport commissioner Adinavelian.
“Currently, the decision on membership status will ensure passengers. One bag up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm can be brought into the cabin.
“This will make A4E members more clear about European passengers in line with member state decisions made last month,” said Ourania Georgoutsakou, managing director of A4E.
“Everyone, from city hoppers to family travelers, will benefit from the same clear rules across their network of members.”
