You may think you've seen it all, but when it comes to exploring Europe, there are plenty of hidden gems and lesser-known destinations worth visiting, including those that travel influencers describe as the most underrated on the continent.
Many of Europe's most popular cities continue to struggle with the overwhelming amount of tourists that come during peak season, so trying new places somewhere is less crowded and much cheaper. There are many options as Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina are becoming more and more popular destinations, but travel influencer Scott's visit revealed what he thinks is the most underrated in Europe.
In a video posted to Instagram, Scott shared that after traveling to more than 50 European cities, Ljubljana is his favorite and describes it as “the cleanest, safest, most unrealistic place.”
Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for holiday makers, listing both Condé Nast travelers and the Times as one of the top destinations to travel this year.
Located between Italy, Austria and Croatia, this cute European city features the emerald green Ljubljanica River that passes through the centre, and plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby.
The car is restricted from driving through the heart and much of the historic old town. This is accessible to Triple Bridge, one of the city's must-see attractions. This means it's a great destination to explore on foot.
For adventure seekers, much of the Julian Alps, a mountain range from northeastern Italy to Slovenia, is located within Trigraf National Park, less than an hour from the capital.
Scott explains Ljubljana, saying that it is “the true hidden gem that you have to visit,” and that there is “no crowd” on his trip. A follower commented on his video, “Slovenia is the country that surprised me the most. I had zero knowledge before I arrived.
Slovenian cities can be reached directly by flying, and summer months visit in May and September or even October to ensure mild temperatures, but promise a bit cheaper flights and less crowds.
A September flight from London is available for just £34 on Skyscanner, but costs £48 from Edinburgh and £69 from Manchester.
