If you're an avid traveler, you probably think you know the inside and outside of how flights work, but there's a lot going on behind the scenes that most passengers don't know about.
To protect our safety, flight attendants have many things before takeoff, during flight, before and after landing, before and after escape. They can be found to actually use secret languages to assist in communication while on board.
The cabin crew uses secret codewords to communicate about passengers and situations. Sometimes for fun, sometimes for serious problems.
A common example is “Bob,” meaning “board.” “Code Adam” is used for missing children, “Galley” refers to the onboard kitchen, and “Blue Juice” refers to the bathroom water, indicating that it needs to be refilled.
A member of one cabin crew named Miva recently took him to Tiktok to talk about a secret language.
TUI workers are trying to confuse non-aviator Indian Alpha Mike… Mike India Victor Alpha, Alpha November Delta Yankee Oscar uniform? This translates to “I Am Miba and You?”
The cabin crew can frequently convey the tricks of this secret letter. So they say random words, but other workers understand by stitching together the first letter of each word.
Jenny, another member of the crew who built his followers under the name @jeenie.weenie on social media, also used social media to inspire us about the secret vocabulary he uses at 30,000 feet. She said: “If you're on a flight, you probably heard flight attendants who use words you don't understand…this is what they mean.”
She clarified the cabin code and said, “If you've ever heard flight attendants call each other L1, L2, R1 or R2, we're calling each other's territory.”
Jenny also says that the crew remembers ordering drinks with Hollywood-inspired codes, saying, “When you hear the flight attendant say Tom Cruise, they use this as a trick to remember where the tea and coffee go.
Speaking about another codeword they use, she added: “If you've ever heard flight attendants say they have to flip the flop, then they should do it easily. That means they had to go out on a flight with red eyes, wear land, almost sleep, wake up the next morning and get on the flight.”
