This famous seaside town is known for its exciting atmosphere and long sandy beaches. We can also boast that TUI now recognizes it as home to one of the most action-packed theme parks in the country. The travel giant conducted a study that found parts of the UK were home to “the most action-packed theme parks in Europe.”
Blackpool's Pleasure Beach Resort has been named the most action-packed theme park. Tui Germany has named the resort as a winner in many other categories, including Italian Gardaland and German fantasy.
The ranking was determined by calculating the number of roller coasters and the number of action-packed vehicles. Action-packed rides in the park against total number of rides – and Pleasure Beach came in first with a 40% action ratio.
Blackpool is best known for its lighting, which takes place every fall. The theme parks and beaches attract thousands of visitors each year.
Lancashire attractions include 10 roller coasters, including the world-famous Big One roller coaster, its latest coaster icon, a bobsleigh coaster avalanche, and wooden coasters such as the Big Dipper and the newly reopened Grand National.
Amanda Thompsono, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, said: “We are known for packing a lot of action into the small spaces of Pleasure Beach. Our coasters sit tightly in line, almost intertwining and interacting with each other.
“Our attractions are so close that our guests can really pack a lot of action in the day. They walk around for less time and longer horseback riding times. We know one or two things about the big 235 feet, the best water rides in Europe, Valhalla, action and adventure.”
Earlier this year, the park announced that it would add another new thrill ride to Avictus in 2026.
The swinging pendulum ride Avictus reaches 138 feet at the highest point, making it the highest species in the country.
Amanda added: “With its epic height, Avictus is an exciting milestone not only for Pleasure Beach, but for the UK theme parks industry as a whole.
“We're always trying to be big and bold, and this new ride will be a very thrilling addition to our action-packed attraction roster.”
Pleasure Beach Resort is open every day throughout the summer, and runs through the end of November.
Figures for 2023 show that the area attracted 21.5 million tourists. This is a 6% increase compared to 20.3 million people in total, the BBC reports. Seaside resorts are a popular option for those looking to visit the seaside or spend their holidays with an adventure element.
