The flight operated by EasteJet in Manchester was forced to return to the airport on the evening of Monday, June 30th.
The Ezy2159 flight heading to Izmir took off from Manchester Airport around 5pm, flew east through Sheffield and Norfolk before suddenly changing course and returning to the airport.
The aircraft retreated over the North Sea and landed safely in Manchester around 5:50pm, about an hour after takeoff.
The airline then confirmed that the diversion was caused by “passenger welfare issues,” with the confusion being described as “out of our control” and “extraordinary circumstances.”
According to an update on EasyJet's website, flights will be grounded overnight and alternative services will be arranged to operate on the morning of Tuesday, July 1st, reported by Manchester Evening News.
No further information has been made regarding the nature of the onboard incident.
In the 9pm update, the airline said:
“We are working hard to arrange your new flight for tomorrow. Once again, we are extremely sorry that your travel plans have been confused.”
