Flutterwave was named for the second time on Time100 to the list of most influential companies.
Time unveils a list of the most influential companies for the fifth time 100, highlighting the companies that are making an extraordinary impact all over the world today. To frame the list, Time sought nominations across the sector, voting for a global network of contributors and correspondents, as well as external experts. The time editors then evaluated each of the key factors such as impact, accommodation, ambition, and success. As a result, a diverse group of 105 businesses can help chart important paths.
Founded in 2016, Flutterwave was first included on the 2021 Time100 list. This followed a historic campaign supporting thousands of businesses to sell online in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Returns in 2025 prove the company's continued influence as a fintech leader, transforming payments in Africa and beyond.
The company continues to commit to connecting Africa through seamless payments. This allows individuals and businesses to thrive in the digital economy. Today, the solutions drive growth across diverse sectors. These include cross-border remittances, e-commerce, travel, payroll and hospitality.
Olugbenga 'GB' Agboola, founder and CEO of Flutterwave, commented on this perception.
“It's a real honor to be recognized on time again. It's a testament to the incredible work of our team. We have moved from building infrastructure to enabling solutions on a global scale. Today's flutterwave is more than just strengthening payments.
Over the past year, Flutterwave has significantly expanded its global presence. The company currently has technology reach in over 34 African countries. Almost 50% of our customers were paid in 2024 in the new market. Additionally, it has launched operations in new markets such as Bahrain, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and has acquired a global ride giant to expand in those countries. This places Flutterwave as one of the few African fintech companies with such a wide range of technology reach.
Additionally, SendApp by Flutterwave, the company's flagship money transfer product, has expanded rapidly throughout the US, UK and the EU. It creates a faster and more affordable way for diaspora Africans to send money to family and friends at home. In particular, the Send app has received 20 additional licenses in the US and now has 34 such licenses nationwide. This, coupled with the partnership, gave the brand almost entirely US coverage. The company also built an enhanced executive team. Recently, we have introduced a focused growth strategy centered on profitability and ongoing market penetration and expansion.
This year's 2025 list follows a recent wave of global and regional acclaim. In particular, Flutterwave was ranked first in Europe, the Middle East and Africa on Fast Company's list of most innovative companies of 2024. Earlier this year, it was recognized for the second year in a row by the FXC Top 100 cross-border payments company.
