Qatar Airways has increased the number of destinations it offers in Africa to 30, and flights between Doha and Rwanda's capital Kigali are resumed from Wednesday, June 25th, 2025.

The reopening demonstrates the airline's commitment to continuing expansion of its African operations and operations across the continent, offering destination connectivity and choice of choice through the award-winning Doha International Airport and award-winning Doha Hub. The move is also expected to help boost socioeconomic development in the region.

Thierry Antinori, Chief Commercial Officer of Qatar Airways, said, “Africa is a vast, growing, underserved market. The growing network in this critical region underscores our commitment to global ties working in partnership with African nations to support the continent's trade, business and tourism potential.”

“This reopening is based on existing codeshare links with Rwandare and Kigali's involvement in the new Bugesara airport. This is part of a series of initiatives, including positioning Qatar Airways as a key role player in Africa's aviation ecosystem, including investments at Airlink, a South African regional carrier last year.”

The expansion comes even among Qatar Airways' wider African milestones to celebrate 20 years of flights to South Africa and Kenya.

Additionally, airlines can recently procure bars for in-flight innovation and customer experiences by announcing that all passengers on a particular African route have access to the fastest internet available onboard, allowing them to enjoy a completely free Wi-Fi service for seamless streaming, gaming and working seamlessly at 35,000 feet.

Qatar Airways is the first, largest and only carrier in the MENA region, offering completely free Starlink services to its customers.

The world's best incumbent airline, voted on SkyTrax last week, also runs the world's largest fleet of Starlink equipped Boeing 777s.

The airline has just announced a partnership with IMG, a leading global sports marketing agency, and has launched a next-generation sports streaming experience that is only available on airline StarLink-connected aircraft.

For the first time, passengers will be able to enjoy the high resolutions of the Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra. You never miss a moment of action at 35,000 feet via IMG's premium live sports channels for the airlines and cruise industry, dedicated web players for personal electronic devices.

Qatar Airways said its “cargo capacity is part of its focus on improving Africa's economic growth. For example, in February, it added nine additional Boeing 777 freighters to its normal schedule in Nairobid Hallut to meet demand ahead of Valentine's Day.

The Career has also set out on a recruitment drive to strengthen nearly 8,500 full-time employees from across Africa who are currently working within Qatar Airways Group.

The reopening of Kigali flights will connect people and goods from a network of airlines with over 170 global destinations to Qatar Airlines' equipped Rwanda Airbus A320 with 12 flatbed businesses and 120 economy-class seats.

Flights operate every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

    Flight Schedule:

Doha (DOH) to Kigali (KGL) – Flight QR1389: Departure *08:20, Arrival *13:30 Kigali (KGL) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR1390: Departure *15:50, Arrival *22:50

*All destination local time. Adding Kigali to the network further strengthens Qatar Airways' African capacity, with an average weekly average of over 44,000 seats.

Qatar Airways, the only five-star global airline based in the Middle East, currently offers over 170 weekly flights to 30 cities across Africa.

Over the past year, Qatar Airways has optimized its schedules at most African destinations to improve connectivity to major destinations such as Brussels, Guangzhou, London, New York and Washington.
