If you are ready to pack your suitcase before a sea vacation, we recommend keeping an eye on the advice of a cruise expert who has revealed the identity of one common household item that may be prohibited on board.
“You may not be expecting this, but this is one of the items that you can't board a ship on almost every cruise line around the world.” “The item is an extension cord (for electrical devices).”
According to Tim, almost every line prohibits the use of any kind of extension cord, whether it is protected by a surge or not. But what is the reason behind this?
“They can be a fire risk. Connecting a lot of things to an outlet is clearly more risky than one,” he explained. “And they say that surge-protected items can also interfere with other electronics on the ship.”
However, the usually allowed option is to be a USB multiplug or hub, allowing some devices to share the same power source. “They are very pleased with them,” Tim said of the cruise line.
Tim closed by pointing out that your code is likely not to be confiscated, but you should avoid using them.
“I took one, but didn't use the actual plug. I also used the USB port that I had, too,” explained one Tiktok user in Reponse. Another person revealed in certain circumstances will be permitted to use the extension, but “I have CPAP so take a non-package protected extension lead.
The third backs up this and says, “P&O allows extension cords if needed for medical devices such as CPAP machines. Surge protection cannot be provided and the machine must be used to make sure the transformer is compatible with the power source.”
Meanwhile, a fourth Tiktok user admitted, “I was taking it without any problems to both the princess and the famous.” That led Tim to “princesses are allowed – one of the few lines that allow it.”
Royal Caribbean checks online. “Guests are not allowed to bring electrical extension cords that include power boards or surge-protected power boards.”
P&O Cruises states, “Extended leads are not permitted on board unless used with mandatory medical devices (such as CPAPs or nebulizer machines). These will be checked.”
Celebrity Cruise “Not Packing” includes “electric extension cords.”
Princess Cruise said: “Usage of extension cords, power banks and surge protectors is limited.”
