Hidden gem “Looks like Mykonos” from Benidorm | Travel News | Travel

Benidorm is famous for being a British tourist hotspot thanks to its sunshine, cheap prices and the famous Calle Gerona best known for its “strip”.

But while you can see Stag and Hen Do parties parading the streets, your holiday destination also has many breathtaking spots you might not know.

One way to escape the party environment is to head to this gorgeous small town near Benidorm. A few minutes away, compared to the beauty of Mykonos, it separates the party scene.

Just an 18-minute drive or a 12-minute bus ride from Benidorm Intermodal, you will find Altea's picturesque location, Alicante.

Welcome as one of Spain's “most iconic” towns, you will feel like you've gone back in time.

Wandering down the streets, you can smell fresh coffee from local cafes and quaint restaurant food.

Tourists are often amazed at the beauty of the parish church known as the Nuestra Senora del Consoelo or Iglesia de Ariba. And when you look beyond the church, you will see the sparkling blue seas and long beaches.

Alice, who shares the best parts of Benidorm and her recommendations online, recently visited Altea and claimed it is a must for her travel list.

The content creator, who boasts over 37,000 followers on Tiktok, said:

“Maybe Althea is not a hidden gem for anyone you know, but there's no way you can be just 15 minutes away from this gorgeous slice of history and culture while you're in Holibob in Benidorm!”

    She added:

Many people agreed – the short clip has over 16,300 likes! It has attracted many positive comments.

One visitor shared: “I went there in December. It's very nice.” Another said: “There are stunning restaurants and bars. It's not Benidorm. They may be close, but they are out of the world. Altea is beautiful.”

The third person said, “It's simply a stunning old town and a new town.” While someone else calls it their “historical place.”

Another claims it's on their bucket list now, writing, “We're definitely heading here… I never knew it was so close.”

Flights from the UK to Alicante can snap from just £40. You can then take a bus, taxi or tram. On the road, this takes about 40 minutes.
