Travel fans have revealed how easy it is for burglars to break into their luggage. It's natural to worry about security when all valuables are packed into one case and handed over to a checked luggage desk.
But Sarah Adekola, also known as @MillennialWealthsarah from Tiktok, emphasizes how easy it is for a burglar to enter a particular travel bag using anything but a pen.
Instead of suggesting people, instead of suggesting that people should avoid holidays altogether or limit them to carry-on baggage for a two-week trip, Sarah provided practical tips for maintaining the safety and security of their bags.
The influencer showed Tiktok that burglars could unlock suitcases using only the pen. By forcing the pen to the zip, they can create an opening to tear it.
Worrisomely, this technique also works with suitcases with robust locks attached, but not when the ZIP is locked directly to the suitcase body.
Sarah advises, “First, don't choose suitcases with zippers like this.”
She then added: “Because people literally steal yours with pens. Essentially, what people are doing is that they're taking the pen and literally just being pushed into it.”
She demonstrated this with her own pen and quickly and quietly tore the zipper. She added: “And they're in your suitcase. And what they do is, when you have a padlock, they go (the hole) and you never know.”
Sara explains this and disappears the entry point.
So instead of choosing a luggage with a very exposed zipper, travel fans offer an alternative.
She recommends a hard shell case over a soft fabric. Because it is waterproof and provides better protection for your clothes.
And if you are worried about the appearance of your luggage, she suggests choosing a dark color so that dirt and scuffs are not too visible.
Sarah also said she tends to choose a bag with four wheels, as she is easy to maneuver, difficult to see with fabrics, or she prefers luggage with hidden zippers.
She added: “I'll also go to suitcase brands that give me a lifetime warranty or at least five years.”
However, the safest bet is to go to a bag with no zips at all. If that's not feasible on a budget, you can significantly improve the security of your property by asking for options in “invisible” zips.
The Tiktok Post has received over 200,000 likes since it was posted by Sarah.
“This is very helpful! Thank you.” And another thing I agreed to have written “great tips.”
Meanwhile, others offered their own advice. One said: “Just wrap your luggage,” and another urged: “Orrr… I'll buy a suitcase cover that hides the zipper anyway.”
