Rochdale's mother is prohibited from leaving Turkey unless she pays a £15,000 fine for the “worst mistake” of her life. Georgia Harrison fears that her drunken mistake might turn into a worst nightmare and that after locking her in the country for six weeks, she might not be able to see her girl.
The 32-year-old enjoyed a drink with his partner Arron. He celebrated his new veneer when he accidentally smashed a shower screen at the Lexia Hotel in Antalya where he was staying. Panic, they departed the hotel by taxi for the airport, but they claimed they were being chased by two cars. The taxi driver sympathizes with the pair and refuses to open the door as he says the vehicle being pursued is “becoming aggressive.”
Concerned about their safety, the taxi driver called the police, and the British couple was taken to the police station, arrested and a travel ban was later enacted.
Rochdale's mother said she had asked for a lawyer, but was told at 2am that no one could use it. Instead, she claimed that her translator had admitted what she had done and told her to either agree to pay or to face prison.
Georgia then signed a statement written in Turkish, “out of fear,” and agreed to pay £15,000 to withdraw the charges and lift the travel ban.
Once she was released, her family managed to get £15,000 and she said the embassy had proposed to direct her attorney.
She explained on the GoFundMe page.
She added:
“The £15,000 my family was able to give me was cut in half as I had to buy the hotel, the food and the flight/boat I was trying to board.”
“I had to call my family and say goodbye many times.
“I know I was wrong and I regret that I was so stupid to hurt the hotel, but I need my daughter to go home. I feel very unsafe.”
A GoFundMe page is set up to help her return home.
