Press Release: Corsair chooses Thales' Flytoptim to reduce CO2 emissions

Red white and blue press release hub banner with title blueAirline Corsair has chosen Thales flight optimization solution Flytoptim on all flights serving Africa, the West Indies and the Indian Ocean (over 5,000 per year), saving thousands of tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Following the trial, the solution saved hundreds of kilograms of fuel on each flight and helped avoid over 300 tonnes of CO2 on the Corsair flight route to the West Indies and Africa.

With this solution, Thales, a key player in sustainable aviation, is trying to reduce the impact on today's environment by providing a systematic approach that allows all airlines to integrate quickly.

FlyToptim is an intuitive AI-powered solution that allows pilots to use real-time weather and aircraft data to optimize vertical flight trajectories, thus reducing fuel consumption by 2%.

Use AI to reduce emissions and advance sustainable aviation

This innovation uses PureFlyt's advanced prediction algorithms from Thales' trustworthy AI and Flight Management System (FMS) to identify the optimal vertical flight path based on real-time weather and aircraft data (such as mass and location).

If optimization is possible, alternative vertical flight paths are sent directly to the cockpit pilot using existing communication channels. Once approved by Air Traffic Control (ATC), pilots can update their flight plans accordingly.

User-centric experiences with no operational disruption

The intuitive design and efficient user experience of Flytoptim, designed alongside the pilot, saw an unparalleled adoption rate. After a few weeks of trial at Corsair, 80% of flights were using Flytoptim. FlyToptim is quick and easy to deploy without the need to modify existing IT systems on aircraft or airlines.

A comprehensive range of environmentally friendly solutions

This solution provides both CO2 and non-CO2 reduction tools for pilots, dispatchers, air traffic controllers and flow managers, marking another step in Thales' roadmap to climate-efficient aviation. Flytoptim gradually integrates Thales' other green operation innovations and supports aviation industry customers on their journeys to more efficient operations, including other cost rail avoidance solutions and dynamic management of air traffic control constraints.

“The Flytoptim tests were easy to implement and the adoption by the pilot went smoothly. The fuel savings achieved are clear and easy to measure. We are delighted to deploy this solution. This solution is perfectly aligned with our environmental strategy and strengthens our commitment to greener aviation. For a variety of tools to mitigate environmental impacts, such as Flytoptim,” said Cyrille Digon, Director Flight Support and CORSAIR CSR.

“We are proud to announce new customers of Flytoptim Solutions. This milestone is perfectly in line with Thales' strategy to change the future of the aerospace industry through innovative technologies that support more sustainable and responsible aviation.”
