As the costs of last-minute summer vacation threaten to grow household budgets, many British people are turning their attention to the British coast for a wallet-friendly weekend escape. Blackpool has emerged as the number one affordable stay this summer, according to a new survey by credit card provider Aqua.
Famous for its nostalgic charm, iconic arcades and classic coastal atmosphere, Blackpool has taken the top spot thanks to just £82 thanks to an average stay. From the world-famous Tower of Blackpool to three pieres lined with fun activities for the whole family, there's plenty to do. The Golden Mile is still as lively as ever, but there's plenty to do, including visiting Madame Tussauds, Sandcastle Water Park and enjoying fish and chips.
TripAdvisor reviews praised the town for its relaxing, delightful sandy beaches.
One user stated: “The waterfront promenade offers a fantastic view of the windy Irish Sea, with a very clean luxury golden beach and clean water I happily bathed in.
“The city also has pubs, restaurants, bars and live music.
“All lit up was the spectacular Central Pier with Big Ferris Wheel and nearby Blackpool Tower. I was only there for three days for the convention, but again stayed there for a long vacation.”
Another reviewer commented: “This was my first trip to Blackpool and certainly not the last.
“We spend a few days in the main part of Blackpool and of course on the beach! There are three piers and a lot to do around the beach.
“We drank at a lovely local bar, enjoyed a picnic next to the sea, and wandered up and down the boardwalk.
“We had fun while it was raining at the beach.”
The iconic Blackpool Tower is always a must-see, with panoramic views from the top, a ballroom dance event and a family-friendly circus show.
Meanwhile, those looking for thrills can head directly to Pleasure Beach, where classic rides and larger roller coasters are mixed.
