There's no shortage of picturesque cities to explore in Europe. There are plenty of tricks when it comes to booking cheap holidays, such as planning ahead or leaving during the shoulder season, but spontaneous city escapes this summer may sound too good.

While some travel experts recommend great deals for last-minute booking trips, going to lesser known destinations is a budget-friendly option, and flights to some cities are available for £17. If you postpone bookings for this year's holiday, that doesn't mean it's too late to sneak in after a few days. Kayak travel experts have revealed three cheapest cities heading this month.

In fact, June is the ideal time to book a holiday. Because it's just before the peak driving season when British schools parted ways for holidays.

The Travel Search Engine website shares the best travel deals of June, including the cheapest cities to fly for last minute vacations. If you find that the weekend is free by the end of the month, it may be your last chance to get away before the price is pulled back.

According to a report on Summer Savings 2025, June is one of the best times for travelers to bag their affordable holidays before the busy peak season. Running away before summer vacation also means avoiding busy airports and long lines.

Just three hours from the UK, both Sofia in Bulgaria and Marrakech in Morocco are on the list, with flights to Sofia currently being 55% cheaper than average.

    Sophia

One of Europe's oldest cities, Sofia is a walking destination that doubles as an ideal break for budget travelers, with plenty of relaxing cafes and bars.

    Marrakech

Return flights from London and Manchester to Marrakech again this month are around £112 per person, with the Moroccan city being home to Sprowlingsuk, which sells local spices, traditional pottery and clothing.

But it's not only about shopping with a card, but on your trip to Marrakech you will also get the opportunity to stare at the Atlas Mountains. Or, if there's something more relaxed, you can indulge in the Hammam instead. The biggest part of leaving in June is the weather, with Marrakech looking at an average of 35ºC this month.

    Budapest

If you're slightly pushed by time but still want a break, another option is just two hours away from the UK. Known as Bass City thanks to its numerous thermal springs and bathhouses, Budapest also has the Danube River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The temperatures reached 24c in June, and flights from London are 45% cheaper than they were since June.
