British tourists planning a summer vacation to Spain this year have been warned against doing one popular thing that could result in fines of more than £400. Vaping is common in the UK, but other countries have more offensive views on customs and have written laws that prohibit it.
Spain is one of these countries, but not many people know this or the consequences of breaking local rules and customs. To help holiday makers avoid expensive mistakes, Electric Tobacconist has created a guide that outlines the vaping methods of the world's most popular destinations and the potential consequences of breaking them. They point out that many Brits are planning to visit countries with strict prevention laws in 2025, and most people may not know whether they will break local rules with their vaping habits.
Spain is the biggest option for the UK summer holidays, with an estimated 15.9% of Britons planning to visit this year still being selected. So out of the UK's 5.6 million vapors, around 900,000 could be at risk of unexpected fines.
Vaping in public spaces like beaches can be fined 200 euros (about 168 pounds), but vaping indoors in public places can lead to penalties of up to 500 euros (about 420 pounds).
While it is legal elsewhere for adults, it is subject to restrictions in certain public spaces, such as government facilities, hospitals, schools, and children's play areas.
Vaping is legal, but e-cigarettes are prohibited in some places and disposable steam is prohibited due to environmental concerns.
One solid insurance provided important advice to travelers who want to bring their vapes on holiday, urging them to check local regulations before they leave.
The expert said, “Certain countries also ban the sale of flavorful steam, like the Netherlands. For those planning to enjoy e-cigarettes in the sun, it's important to be informed about local methods, especially in countries like Spain, where vaping is prohibited on certain beaches.
“We recommend consulting with government resources at your destination before your trip to ensure that you are up to date with current regulations as well as vaping.
“If you're unsure, it's best to keep it safe at all times to avoid vaping on the beach where certain laws may be in place.”
