Air India has confirmed that Flight AI171 was involved in the incident, but has not yet provided details.

“Flight AI171, which operates Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in today's incident on June 12, 2025,” the airline says.

Media reports from India suggest that 242 people were on an aircraft consisting of 230 passengers and a 12 crew member, but Air India has not yet confirmed this figure.

Images from the Indian News website show a massive plume of black smoke floating in the sky from a crashed aircraft. The weather seems to be sunny.

The VT-ANB is powered by two GE Aerospace Genx engines. It was released in January 2014.
