Bilbao's bar has admitted to “up” the prices of British football fans in the Europa League final. The owner of the popular bar told Spanish newspapers that if they hear English spoken, they would charge twice as much for a small beer.

His bar, Poza 42, is in an area frequently visited by British football fans as more than 60,000 British people flooded Bilbao for the Europa League final. The newspaper Cadena Ser said the owner:

“The Kanya (a small beer) is 4 euros. Yes, I doubled it…but it's not that much, do you know? It's not going a little further.”

In El Arenal's fan zone, the price is reportedly higher, with 5 euros at Caña and 10 euros for 750ml of beer.

Thousands of Britons headed to the town of northern Bilbao and watched Tottenham's Hotspurs play Manchester United in the 2025 Europa League final on Wednesday night. The Spurs defeated Manchester United 1-0.

Basque Regional Police Elzantza confirmed that seven people were arrested in connection with the incident after the football showdown as security authorities enforced steel rings around San Mamemus Stadium.

Online videos showed fans fighting and destroying the city, including one image of a young fan having a broken traffic light above his head.

    A spokesman for Ertzaintza said:

“The arrests were for combat, criminal damage, disobedience and assault on police officers.”

The five detainees had already been released, but were later summoned to appear before a judge, and the two remained in police custody, but were expected to be allowed to leave later today, the spokesman said.
