Qatar's Amir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, met with President Patrice Talon of the Republic of Benin in Amiri Diwan, Doha, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The conference focused on strengthening bilateral relations across multiple sectors, including aviation, infrastructure, education, healthcare and culture. Regional and international developments of mutual interest were also discussed.
Following the meeting, the joint statement described the visit as a milestone in Qatar-Benin relations.
The two countries expressed interest in increasing cooperation with aviation, with the possibility of direct flights between Doha and Kotonou and cooperation between Qatar Airways and Benin's Amazon Airlines.
This step will contribute to improving Benin's economic appeal, attracting investment, and stimulating tourism, freight transport and cultural exchange.
Qatar reiterated its commitment to supporting development initiatives in Africa, particularly in infrastructure, education and health. The two countries also agreed to deepen their cultural cooperation through exhibitions and institutional exchanges.
The statement concluded with a pledge to strengthen bilateral consultations, coordinate positions in multilateral forums, and promote a shared vision of an inclusive and sovereign global order.
Investment opportunities in the Middle Eastern Eye of Africa
Amidst a wave of strategic economic diplomacy, the Middle Eastern countries under the banner of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have significantly increased their investment across Africa in 2025.
Last month, Business Insider Africa reported that Middle Eastern countries have shown at least $6 billion worth of interest or protected trade in Africa's energy assets in recent weeks, indicating an increase in investment appetite on the region's continent.
