The UK's Foreign, Federal and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its Turkey travel advice page. The update was released on Tuesday, May 20th in light of a fatal incident involving British tourists.
“Paragliding is an extreme sport and risks serious injuries and death. A British citizen was killed or seriously injured while paragliding in Turkey. We will ensure that we have received full instructions and training before any activities.
FCDO advice for Turkey also encourages Brits to be careful when purchasing liquor to avoid dangerous homemade alcoholic beverages.
This advice tells visitors to the country to buy alcohol only from stores such as licensed shops, pubs, hotels and other stores. British people should also check that the stickers on purchased bottles have not been tampered with and scrutinize poor prints and typo labels.
Travelers should also seek emergency medical attention if they become ill after drinking alcohol.
This advice also asks tourists to have a UK passport and ensures they remain valid for at least 150 days beyond the arrival date and have at least one blank page. For business or tourist purposes, a visa is not required for a maximum of 90 days of stay within the 180-day period.
The Gov.uk website states, “If you enter a land border, officials should push their passport across the border and date them. Please check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet the requirements.
“Renew your passport as needed. If you don't have a valid travel document, your entry will be denied if you attempt to use a passport that was reported to be lost or stolen.”
