Hideaways Africa is proud to announce the latest addition to its Safari Experiences portfolio: Hideaways Amava River Lodge, formerly known as the Bundox River Lodge. Located in the north of the Baleur Private Games Reserve, this intimate Greater Kruger camp marks an exciting expansion for a retreat to one of South Africa's most popular safari destinations.
Amava, which means “experience” by Isixhosa, captures the essence of what Hideaways symbolizes. Overlooking the perennial Olifants River, Amaba River Lodge offers an authentic Kruger safari experience with daily game drives, river views frequently visited by elephants, hippos and buffaloes, as well as opportunities to reunite with nature in one of Africa's richest ecosystems.
This milestone represents more than just geographical expansion. This deepens their commitment to curating unique and diverse experiences across South Africa. With Hideaways' footprint spreading across Greater Kruger, the Amava River Lodge will enhance the range of Safari circuits offered, complementing destinations in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
“Expanding to the Kruger region is an important step for us as a brand,” says Sulet Burger-Prinsloo, Head of Hideaways Africa. “It not only provides guests with access to one of Africa's most legendary wildlife regions, but also strengthens our ability to provide a multi-country, seamless safari experience that reflects the spirit of soulful and sustainable travel.”
With five beautifully appointed tents, a charming main area with river views and a design that reflects the modest “luxury” of bushes, the Amaba River lodge is perfect for small groups, couples and independent travelers looking for a private bush escape. The lodge is easily accessible from Hoedspruit Airport via just 45 minutes (and other access available from JHB as recommended route), making it the perfect start or ending point for South African adventures.
Guests at Amava River Lodge are looking forward to the diverse and immersive activities. These include two game drives per day on open 4×4 vehicles, a Big Five walking safari led by an expert guide, and a unique boat cruise on the Olifants River. Conservation-oriented travelers can take part in interactive visits to nearby conservation camps. There you will get direct insight into important wildlife conservation initiatives.
As Amava River Lodge is welcomed by the Hideaways family, they continue to focus on making a journey that leaves a lasting impact on the guests, the communities they work in, and the wild places that they help protect.
