Etihad Airways plans to purchase the 28 Boeing 777X and 787. This will buy your Air Flammer order book with the latest boost the day after you win the biggest wide body order.
The deal, which was announced as a bystander of President Donald Trump's visit to the UAE, is said to be worth around $14.5 billion, according to media reports citing the White House.
Boeing did not immediately respond to FlightGlobal's request for comment.
The agreement also covers orders for GE Aerospace Engines that drive the 787 and 777x (the variations were not immediately disclosed) and the service package.
The first of the 28 wide body is expected to be available from 2028, Etihad says. It adds that the new Boeing Jet is part of the “evolving roadmap” of the airline's long-term strategy.
Airline Chief Antono Aldneves said: “This commitment reflects an approach to carefully manage the fleet and expanding in line with demand and long-term network plans.”
Etihad is the existing operators of the 787 and 777, a mix of 787-9 and -10, and a 777-300ers.
The commitment to Etihad as the latest customer in the 777x programme under development, consists of 130 787s and 30 777-9S, with an option for 50 more aircraft, just days after Middle Eastern operator Qatar Airways ordered solidly for 160 aircraft.
That order – announced on May 15th and worth $210 billion – is Boeing's biggest widebody order and the biggest commitment of the 787 program so far.
