London commuters were given a taste of holiday cheer without leaving town thanks to a multisensory Virgin Atlantic experience at Southbank observation points. The event offered an exhilarating boost with pre-flight drinks, destination-inspired scents and a rejuvenating session of red therapy.
This unique blend was designed to evoke the same emotional and physiological responses associated with going on holiday, including excitement, increased mood, reduced stress, and enhanced emotional health. Guests were greeted by the cabin crew and invited to relax in a clubhouse style bar before settling in a luxurious premium seat for a 10-minute light therapy session.
Treatments using red light wavelengths between 630 and 700 nanometers are designed to replicate the holiday mood, glow induction, and sleep-improving effects. It has been scientifically proven that individuals shine from within.
The soothing ham of the jet engine joined the atmosphere, causing a strong sense of wanderlust among the guests. The scent also played an important role. The pleasant aroma of sweet Caribbean coconuts, warming saffron from Mumbai food stalls, and roasted coffee beans from New York delis have penetrated the air.
Lifestyle Coach Adrienne Adhami assisted in designing the experience, saying:
“This experience gives people the opportunity to recharge and allows us to feel the sparks of excitement associated with travel. From mood-enhancing red light therapy to the details of the sensations that harness positive memories, it reminds us of the importance of travel to our well-being.”
A study involving 2,000 adults found that 49% have not yet planned a holiday in 2025, so retreats are coming at the right time. Many long for the thrill of new experiences (57%), meeting new people (20%), and immersing themselves in different cultures (44%).
Virgin Atlantic spokesman also offers red light therapy experiences at its locations in Mary Hill, Trafford Centre, Blue Water, Meadow Hall, Lakeside and Liverpool.
“Red Spirit Retreat offers a mood-enhancing experience for Londoners and how it feels to fly with us before experiencing the real thing on the next holiday.”
