A list of the best beaches in the world has been revealed, and the number one spot was filmed in a stunning location on a beautiful Greek island. There, temperatures reach even hotter 20s as early as June, July and August. Elafonissi Beach, Crete, was named the best in the world at the TripAdvisor Best of the Best Awards. The stunning beach is located on the island's west coast and is often viewed by thousands of visitors.

It earns 4.5 out of 5 based on an astounding 16,000 reviews. What makes this beach special is its unique pink sand and turquoise water. There is a shallow lagoon here, so even the most inexperienced swimmers can get in the water. Considered the best beach in the world, you can expect to be busy. Tourists are advised to arrive early to secure sunbeds and umbrellas as it gets more crowded as the days go by.

Crete is one of Greece's most popular destinations for British tourists, and has some popular locations on the island, including Chania and Matara. Crete attracted millions of visitors a year, reaching a new high in 2024 with over 5 million people.

The island is popular for several reasons, the main one being the scenic beaches and summer weather. According to Visit Greece, there are remnants of an old civilization here.

Meanwhile, it is also recognized in its peaks and coastal scenes. Plus, Crete has a rather rich culinary scene. That means there are plenty of delicious foods tourists are trying out here and enjoying.

Heraklion and Chania are both international airports on Crete. Flights to these airports take off from multiple UK countries, including London, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow, and airline options such as Riania, EasyJet, Corendon Airlines Europe, British Airways and JET2.

Flights between the UK and Crete usually last between 4-5 hours, depending on the airport you depart.

Elafonissi Beach is named the best beach in the world, but the island has many other stunning coastal spots. They include Baros Lagoon, Farasarna and Neachora Beach.

The reviewer was doing something overwhelmingly positive about Elafonissi Beach after the visit. One wrote: “Beautiful beach! Crystal Clearwater! Not pink as pictured online! There's very little pink these days! So if you just want to go see pink, you might be disappointed, but I loved the beach!

Another said: “I gave this beach to four stars. It's absolutely beautiful beach and the ocean, but it's filled with tourists so I have to pay for the toilet.”

    The third person wrote:

Other beaches that have made the list of the top 10 bests in the world are found all over the world, according to thousands of TripAdvisor reviews. Second place is Banana Beach in Phuket, Thailand.

The rest of the top 10 consists of Eagle Beach in Alba, Siesta Beach in Florida, Praia da Fersia in Portugal, Playa Varadero in Cuba, Bovaro Beach in Dominican Republic, Playa de Mouro Beach in Spain, Beach in Indonesia, and Miltos Beach in Glee.
