    Europeans fly mostly within Europe this summer. Despite rising airfares, the exception is one of the US cities that has achieved its place in Europe's top 10, according to the latest official airline guide report. This is New York City. It is also the only long-distance destination in the world to reach the top 10. New York City's attraction is that flights between New York and London's Heathrow are fifth among the busiest destinations from Europe, from Europe and inside. It has 1.23 million seats, according to data from the aeronautical analysis company OAG.

    OAG reports the top 10 busiest routes in Europe this summer between March 30th and October 25th, based on scheduled airline capacity.

    Airfares increased on top European routes compared to last summer

    Average economy airfares, including New York and London, are increasing across most of the top 10 routes. However, flights to New York have only increased by 3.9%. This is the overall overall increase this summer. The average economic airfare between New York and London is $240 compared to last year's $231.

    For our visitors who want to explore Europe more this summer, three of Europe's top 10 routes have seen airfares drop this year.

    The next six busiest routes between Europe and the US

    According to data from the Aviation Analytics Firm Cirium, six other US cities will likely increase significantly with Europe this summer.

    Top airline operating flights between Europe and the US

    Cirium data shows that 263,000 flights will take place between Europe and the US this summer, with a capacity of 70,658,814 seats. This summer, the top three airlines operating between Europe and the US are US carriers and dominate most of all traffic.

    Delta is the leading carrier in terms of capacity between the US and Europe. The airline is offering 40,594 flights over this period with a capacity of 10,422,414 seats.

    United Airlines ranks second in terms of capacity, offering more flights (42,723) than the Delta between the US and Europe, but with fewer seats (10,208,892).

    American Airlines is third in flights (28,944) and seats (7,824,770) that are significantly lower than the top two carriers.

    British Airways, American Airlines' One World Alliance Partner, has the highest capabilities of any European airline between the US and Europe. This summer, we will offer a total of 22,193 flights and 6,449,887 seats.

    United Airlines Star Alliance Partner, Luftanza, offers the second-highest capacity in a European carrier, offering the fifth-highest capacity overall with flights 14,284 and 4,687,530 seats.

    Delta Line's SkyTeam Alliance Partners Air France and Virgin Atlantic are each continuing to compete closely between European airlines in terms of flight and capabilities. Air France is expected to offer 3,747,454 seats on flights between the US and Europe. Virgin Atlantic is scheduled to have flights of 12,435 with 3,611,778 seats. All things considered, New York is expected to see an influx of tourists this summer, despite the continued airfares being even more expensive.
