With spring and summer around the corner, many people are hoping to erupt and see the sights overseas, catch some rays and take a break from real life. For those who have yet to decide on their destination, Agadir in Morocco should be on your list of candidates.

This North African gem is the most visited city in southern Morocco, boasting its major coastal locations and is renowned for its stunning and sustained beaches. Despite the North African setting, Agadir palm-lined boulevards and beachfront bars give the atmosphere of a Western resort and make them a popular choice for winter sun seekers. The city's modern infrastructure was primarily due to the devastating earthquake of 1960, leading to much of the Agadir being rebuilt using seismic resistant construction methods, Chronicle Live reports.

Visitors to Agadir can enjoy a variety of activities, from camel riding to beach buggy rentals. For a more relaxed experience, the Suq al-Had market is worth a visit. Alternatively, take a 20-minute walk to the ruins of Agadir Kasbah for panoramic city views and a break from the beach.

The Agadir culinary scene is an appetizing fusion of Arab and Mediterranean flavours, boasting a “rich and aromatic spice combination.” The dishes contain a huge amount of fruits such as apricots and olives, and lamb is a star ingredient in most dishes.

A gourmet destination for authentic, delicious pitas, Pitabar features a unique blend of Mediterranean and Moroccan flavours. It features perfectly grilled meat and a rich, homemade sauce in the heart of Agadir.

The restaurant Rafik, a very authentic Moroccan culinary experience, is also worth trying, with a sublime lamb dish that is said to be “gorgeous taste”. The review also points out the friendly nature and usefulness of the staff.

The city also offers many experiences that have been praised as “essential” on TripAdvisor. These include thrilling desert quad bike safari, swimming excursions to the Paradise Valley and the Atlas Mountains, as well as a visit to the nearby Crocopark Zoo.

For those looking for tranquility, the traditional Hammam offers a relaxing massage. There is a day trip to Marrakech. Or embark on a full day boat trip with fishing and lunch against the stunning Atlantic backdrop.

Moroccan cities are also paradises for surfers and are captivating enthusiasts from all over the world. This is no surprise given the miles of untouched beaches that make Agadir a popular destination.

More has been discovered about Agadir, with flights starting from just £37 (at the time of writing), which could be the perfect sunny holiday this summer. For more information, please visit the Agadir section of the Moroccan section of the TripAdvisor website.
