If you can't decide where to go on your next holiday, one Globetrotter has covered you after sharing your trip to what is known as the “most underrated” capital in the world.
With summer almost here, you may have begun to dream about your next holiday. While British people prefer to chase the sun to go to places like Spain and Turkey, going to tourist resorts to enjoy the sun may not necessarily be attractive. Instead, one Globetrotter urges people to consider it a “nuclear-free” city that can expect an average high of 34C over the summer months.
Travel enthusiast Dasha Kofman took her to Tiktok and shared her recent holiday insights with Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, in the Caucasus region at the intersection of Europe and Asia. This country is believed to be the place where wine was first invented in 5,000 BC.
“I just visited one of the most underrated capitals,” Dasha said. “It was Tbilisi, Georgia, and in my research it was very difficult to find a video of Tiktok about what to do there.
She continues to list a long list of activities you can do in the historic city and has something for whom you want to do on your vacation.
1. Driveridge Market
“The number one is the drive ridge market,” Dasha said. “It's all flea markets. First of all, these watch rings are under $5 (£3.74). They found the most beautiful jewelry here.
She continued: “Georgia experienced literally all kinds of cultures because of its trade and conquering. This flea market represents the entire history of the Middle Ages to the Soviet Union.”
Below the market is a park where artwork from local talent is displayed and sold.
2. Walk along the Kura River
“Number 2 is walking along the water,” Dasha said. “In a romantic city, I think that little river needs to go through it. It's so romantic to walk along the water, get on a boat, sit and admire just by the flow of water.”
She urged people to walk along the river until you reached the third place on her list.
3. Walking past the Bridge of Peace and up to the cable car
“Leave together until you reach number 3, which is to walk on the bridge of peace,” Dasha said. “It's definitely more modern and doesn't really apply to the Old Town, but it sends a message that Georgians just want peace.”
The 150-meter-long bridge on the Kura River was commissioned by the city's halls to create a contemporary design feature that connects the old Tbilisi with the new central part of the city. It opened in 2010.
Dasha urges you to walk over the bridge to the cable car to take you to one of the mountains for the Georgia historic mother, who is said to protect the country from the “amazing” scenery of the city and the conquerors.
4. Relax in the bathhouse
“The next activity will be a relaxation moment,” Dasha said.
She continued to explain. “Tbilisi actually means warm water. Its name is because of the sea of sulfur found in cities that help people run these very popular bathhouses in the Silk Road era, when people come to relax after the trade.”
The Tbilisi Sulfur bus has been a central part of the local culture and heritage, bringing therapeutic and social benefits since the 5th century and has become a central part of the local culture and heritage with many healing properties.
5. Explore the Old Town and the Meidan Bazaar
For the next point, Dasha states: “Next to the list is exploring the old town. From clock towers to stunning architecture, there's a lot more to explore.”
She continues to encourage people to go on guided tours, but she never knows what you might encounter later, so she ends up straying yourself on historic streets.
“In the old town, when the Silk Road was very active, they actually have a place for gatherings. It's the Meidan Bazaar,” Dasha said. “Today, it's tourists, but back then, it was a place where all traders came across and sold everything they brought from the East. So it's definitely a cool place to check out.”
6. I'm going shopping
Next, Dasha encouraged people to go to her two favorite neighborhoods for shopping: Vera and Shota Rustaveli Avenue.
She went on to say:
“And in contrast to a more independent store, walking down Shorta Rastaveri Avenue,” she continued. “This is the main road in the city with beautiful architecture, so many museums, big retail shops and chain restaurants, but you can also find some hidden local gems, restaurants and cafes.”
7. We will be offering wine tasting
“And lastly, we have to go on a wine tour because Georgia is where wine was made,” Dasha said. “Whether it's a self-guided or a tour group, I made a video at my favorite wine bar so you can do it yourself.”
“But honestly, if you jump into any wine shop, you'll probably taste free,” she said.
