Cruise experts share four huge “mistakes.” Cruise | Travel

Cruising is only becoming more popular with passengers who have the ability to sail the world without flying. Some people may think it's similar to other holidays, but it can feel very different, especially on the first cruise.

This makes cruise research extremely important. According to cruise experts, there are a few mistakes that many people make before heading for their first cruise, including overpacking, ignoring daily planners and not following their dress code.

    1. Overpacking

“We're excited to see you all knowing that we're a great place to go,” said Mike Graham, cruise expert at Destination 2.

“It's tempting to be prepared for every possible scenario, but you don't necessarily need six formal outfits.

“Cruise ships are more casual, so I'll stick to versatile pieces. Trust me. You'll spend more time in swimsuits and comfortable clothes than in the tuxedo you thought you needed.”

    2. Ignore the daily planner

Another common mistake is to ignore the daily planner who shows all the activities of the day.

The expert said: “Before boarding, be sure to research what the cruise ship has to offer.

“Many cruise lines recommend bookings, meals, meal reservations and spa treatments in advance.

“They often provide apps or personalized planners to help with this. We recommend using it as popular experiences can be met soon.”

    3. Head to the buffet at peak times

When it comes to cruise buffets, timing is everything, and one of the most common mistakes is to arrive at peak times.

If you want to skip the crowd, hit the buffet right after closing or just before closing.

The expert added: “Another hack is not afraid to ask when certain dishes are newly made or come out. They are often willing to share tips when the best options become available, so you can dive before they disappear.”

    4. Annoyed cruise workers

The cruise expert continues: “Sunbed hogging is one of the biggest crimes when cruising fake passes. Leave a towel all day frustrating not only the other guests but also the crew.

“Ignoring the dress code can also cause frustration, and cruise lines require formal or semi-formal nights where you need smarter clothes.

“It definitely raises a few brows when it appears on a flip-flop or your favorite boudgie smuggler. Make sure to pack it to see more details about the event and avoid any troublesome moments.”
