Long distance travel is an exciting experience and can help you check out bucket list spots. However, these flights can be uncomfortable and often you will have to suffer from jet lag once you arrive.
Sleeping on a plane is always helpful, but it’s hard to be comfortable enough to drift away, especially if you’re traveling through the economy. Plus, the airplanes, meal times and the sounds of children are all destructive. There’s nothing more frustrating than watching your neighbor fall asleep quickly while you sit down another flying film and feel it’s shattered.
Thankfully there are some great ways to help.
Content creator Logan Ray Hill says that thanks to five items that completely changed the flight experience, you can sleep uninterrupted on most flights.
Lauren said: “This is a must-have way to sleep on an overnight flight. I’m going for a seven-hour flight, so I have to sleep all the time.
“I do all my skincare before the airport, so I feel that it’s crude to do skincare on a plane,” says Logan, who boasts a million Tiktok followers.
She also shared that she wears compression socks on flights she bought at discount stores. Socks help improve circulation and minimize swelling that can occur during extended sitting periods. The British Heart Foundation recommends wearing compression socks on flights to help reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Logan, who has travelled and lives many times between Nashville and New York, swears with a good neck pillow. She’s wrapped around your neck all the way, and has something that “looks like you’re suffocating by a snake.” It prevents neck pain and tension, and allows you to tilt your head in your sleep position.
The Infinity Pillow by Huzi is rated as one of the best “snake” neck pillows. It’s available on Amazon for £44.99, but similar options are available for £24, such as the Snugalo Travel Pillow.
Logan also suggests getting a good eye mask that blocks all the light from the plane, making it easier to sleep. The mentioned trick helped her to sleep on the plane, but she also suggests two items that helped her to stay asleep on the flight.
She takes the brand of sleep gami that claims to “really keep you asleep.” These contain melatonin. Melatonin can be purchased commercially in the US, but a prescription is required in the UK.
“In some countries, melatonin can be purchased at health food shops and online. It is sold as a complementary drug and is offered as a standard capsule, tablet or liquid,” the NHS said. “However, these supplements are not permitted to be sold in the UK and are prescription-only medications. Ordering melatonin online is not recommended.”
She is also taking Dramamin, which contains the active ingredient, dimate. This is an antihistamine that can be used via counters, primarily to treat movement intoxication symptoms. One of the major side effects of dimenhydroleic acid is drowsiness.
The drug should be used only for the intended purpose. If you have concerns before taking medications or supplements, it is important to do your own research and consult with your doctor. If you are experiencing severe side effects, always read the label and contact a healthcare professional.
Commenting on Logan’s neck pillow, one person said: “That neck pillow looks great! On the last long flight, my back was attached to your head rest, which was a game changer. My neck was stable and I could actually fall off.”
Another who tried the hack said, “OK, after the last video on this, I should wear a neck pillow/sleepy sleep mask and had to take Dramamin for my flight – slept for 7 hours out of 9 hours.”
Another is, “Add an inflatable footrest. Trust me. You are welcome.”
