South Africa Airlines assesses the extent of impact on data after a cyber incident

South African Airlines assesses the potential data impact of cyber incidents that have affected the IT systems of several carriers.

The “critical” cyber violations, which began on May 3, disrupted the airline’s website, mobile apps and “multiple” internal operational systems.

“Preliminary investigations are currently assessing the full scope of the incident and are actively working to determine whether data has been accessed or excluded,” adds Career.

If a data breach is confirmed, the SAA says it will notify the affected parties directly. The company is still working to determine whether the case is related to criminal activity.

“The security and integrity of our business systems and the protection of consumer data entrusted to us remain our number one priority,” says SAA Group Chief John Lamora.

He says normal functions were restored on the same day that the company “acted swiftly” to contain the mess.

“Our robust business continuity measurements ensured operational stability, especially for our valued customers.

“We are taking all the steps necessary to determine the root cause of this incident, strengthen our security framework and mitigate potential risks.”

SAA works with forensic investigators, law enforcement officers and information regulators via probes.
