When planning an ideal city break, most people include visiting museums, strolling medieval streets, perhaps a park trip, and drinks that are deserved when fatigue subsides. No matter how affordable your flight is, you usually get hit with the cost of an expensive pint.

Relaxing destinations in popular cities such as Dublin, Paris and Amsterdam, particularly in tourist spots, refreshing beer can cost over £6. But there is one European city offering rich history, great architecture, numerous parks, lively bars and cheap pints. Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, boasting a blend of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture.

It really resembles a fairy tale.

The city is also famous for its beer. This is willingly inexpensive for tourists looking to save money. According to the cost of the living website Numbeo, the Prague pint costs just £2.04, a bargain compared to the UK price.

Dining out is also reasonably priced, with a 3-course meal for two people at the mid-range restaurant costing around £34.80. Skyscanner currently lists direct flights from Manchester Airport to Prague from £26 in June, with return tickets available at similar prices (excluding baggage or seat allocation), making it a budget-friendly summer city break option, reported by Manchester Evening News.

Despite its affordable prices, Prague does not compromise on its products. Lonely Planet promoted it as an alternative to Paris, saying, “Prague is Paris equality in terms of beauty. Its history goes back to the millennium, and beer is the best in Europe.”

The historic centre of Prague, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is filled with treasures awaiting discoveries.

The stunning Old Town Square dates back to the 12th century, a must-see. The highlight of the square was the iconic astronomical clock, which was installed in 1410 and is still functioning, making it one of the oldest in the world.

Another adoring landmark is the Charles Bridge, spanning the Vltava River, which has withstanded the tests of the era since the 14th century. For history lovers, Prague Castle, a 9th century complex, is an absolute must-see.
