2014 “The Safer Year in Airline History”

London – Last year was officially the safest in the history of commercial aviation.

According to the International Air Transport Association, more people died in aviation accidents than the average in recent years in 2014, but the number of fatal accidents compared to the total number of fatal accidents was a record.

According to the annual safety report, 641 people died in an airline accident in 2014 – 210 in 2013, but two “extraordinary tragic events” involving Malaysia Airlines are marked.

The numbers include the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, which lost 239 people. The remains are still sought in the South Indian Ocean.

However, statistics specifically exclude all 298 people killed on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which was shot down with a Ukrainian missile in June, and are therefore not classified as an accident.

Overall, the number of fatal plane crashes fell from 16 in 2013 to 12 last year. The IATA said every 4.4 million flights the aircraft were destroyed or severely damaged, translated into a record low and serious accident.

In 2013, the fare was one plane for every 2.4 million flights.
