The weather is warmer, which means one thing. During the holiday season, it is on the horizon. But with living expenses continuing to bite and household budgets are becoming thinner than ever, knowing exactly when to book your vacation can make all the difference.
Despite economic pressure, the British are more keen than ever to flee this summer. According to Skyscanner's latest Smarter Summer report, three-quarters of UK travelers (76%) are expected to take more holidays than last year. And among the indications of how important the value of money is, 87% said they are willing to change the date of their trip if it means getting a large deal.
The report revealed that the most affordable week to travel during school summer holidays begins on July 7th. That's when prices are on average the lowest – important information for almost half of UK vacation managers who are planning a summer vacation but have not yet booked it.
When it comes to securing savings, we seem to be more and more familiar with it. More than a third of Britons say they knowingly avoid peak days to cut costs, while 33% choose destinations where spending money grows even more. With some of Europe's most famous hotspots overwhelmed by popular tourism, the seduction of quieter and more expensive destinations is now stronger than ever.
Overtourism is a major issue as cities like Venice and Santorini struggle with the weight of millions of annual visitors. Therefore, it is no surprise that 55% of UK travelers say they're rather exploring rare places this summer.
And there are some real gems. The report revealed 10 top-value destinations with return shipping costs under £106. These include the fairy tale charms of Bremen and Baden-Beden in Germany, the town of Poprad, the mountain town of Slovak, and even the gateway to the Su-Alzazaate Sahara in Morocco.
