Qatar Airways' freight division is to become a launch customer for the Boeing 777-200LR freighter conversion program, established by a US-based mammoth freighter.

This disclosure follows changes at Fort Worth's Aspire MRO, followed by initial test flights of a prototype conversion aircraft (N705DN) with a 777-200LRMF specified.

Mammoth says it has concluded five aircraft contracts with US sales and leasing company Jetran.

“This additional cargo ship capacity will be committed to growing the fleet and expanding the premium cargo service we offer to customers around the world,” says Mark Drush, Chief Cargo Officer at Qatar Airways.

“The growth of the fleet at the Mammoth 777 reflects our commitment to running the largest freighter network and fleet in the industry.”

Mammoth Chief Bill Tarpley says Qatar's commitment demonstrates the “long-term value and capabilities” the aircraft offers.

The conversion company has received solid orders for 35 freighter conversions, with the 777 being revised to 777. This is five at STS Aviation Services in Manchester and two at Aspire Mro and two in the UK.

Jetran chief Jordan Jaffe adds that the completion of the 777-200LRMF's initial test flight was “exciting and safe” and “exceeded expectations.”

“(It strengthened our confidence in Mammoth's engineering and conversion capabilities.”
