As part of an effort to promote international parliamentary cooperation, Sen. Yunus Akintunde, who represents the OYO Central Senate District, participated in the Korea Foundation Invitation Program for Prominent Guests of the Congress held in Korea from April 20-26, 2025.

Organized by the South Korean Foundation, a public diplomatic organisation under the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event hosted selected lawmakers from around the world, including Ivan Alberto Flores Garcia (Chile), Ahmed Ezat Manna (Egypt), Edin Dalek (Serbia) and Martin Ivan Ivan Yeza (Argentina). Senator Akintunde was the only Nigerian invited.

Akintunde, chairman of the Nigerian Senate Environment Committee, was engaged in high-level meetings at the Korea Legislative Institute and attended sessions at the Institute of Foreign and National Security. The briefing was led by well-known experts in security and defense, Professor Bankil Joo-woo and Professor Song Ji-seong.

Regarding this experience, Akintunde said: “This engagement has provided an invaluable platform for global legislative leaders to address urgent international challenges and develop strategic partnerships.”

He also met with the President of the South Korean Foundation, Kin Youngsey, to explore the deeper bond between Nigeria and Correa. “As part of the programme, I held a productive meeting with Mr. Kin Youngsey, President of the South Korean Foundation, where I explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and South Korea, particularly in areas such as environmental sustainability, energy development, education and innovation,” he said.

The senator also visited the greenhouse in Seoul. “The visit also gave us the opportunity to set out on a visit to a greenhouse in Seoul, which provided insights into climate-sensitive agriculture, precision agriculture and green technology.
