The seaside town known as the “worst” in the UK is now known as “Calif. in the UK.” The Southend-on-sea in Essex attracts thousands of visitors each year, and crowds are swarmed throughout the summer.
These days, it is a coastal area loved by many, and there are plenty of family-friendly activities for people to enjoy. But it doesn't always happen. Last year, a magazine survey of the UK's best seaside destinations. The vote was based on the value of the beaches, attractions, scenery and money, with the South End falling towards the bottom of the list.
Many visitors are disappointed that the destination town has received some negative reviews on TripAdvisor. Posted by Tony V: “I've never seen a beach like this in my life.
“There was no water. You need to walk 3.4km of dirt, shells, dead crabs and oysters. And you may reach the water. There is no sand, no rock either. Absolutely a horrifying experience, we will never return.”

But while some immediately criticize the seaside town, many were more positive – and even left an incredibly sparkling review of Jubilee Beach in the South End. User Lgabor compared Jubilee Beach in the South End with Venice Beach in California, USA.
They posted to Google: “It's in the UK, but if you're there, you feel like you've been to America. It's similar to Venice Beach in America and has a very nice pier with a train!”
Ian Bell said: “It was a very clean pebbles beach, the whole place was actually clean. The toilets were open and fine. It wasn't too busy,” Domi Dee added. “A lovely long beach. I love the shells and the quiet atmosphere,” Nicola Palmer continued: “A lovely beach, so many great amenities, but ruined by the visitors leaving behind trash despite ample bottles available. It's very frustrating.”
“Jubilee Beach is a clean, family-friendly place with a mix of sandy and rocky areas. It offers fantastic views and nearby amenities, allowing it to be crowded on sunny days, but is perfect for relaxing and enjoying outdoor activities.”
And the town of Seaside appears to be rising with festivals such as City Jam, Lazy Days Festival, South East Dance Festival and paintings of Halloween Parade among the crowds.
The Southend Pier is one of the main attractions for many people. It stretches for 1.33 miles to the mouth of the Thames as the world's longest joyful pier.
The South End is easily accessible from London, with C2C and Greater Angriat available to multiple train stations. It's about an hour's journey from London to South End.
