Two people were killed and one was seriously injured in a plane crash in Alaska on Monday.

A Cessna 207 plane crashed near Nanwarek in the southern Kenai Peninsula on Monday afternoon, according to a local outlet Alaska news source.

Newsweek is contacting the Alaska Department of Transport and Public Facilities for comments outside of normal working hours.

    Why is it important?

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) compiled dozens of flight safety accidents in the first four months of the year.

Among the most serious collisions of the year was the January 29th collision involving a commercial jet and a military helicopter above the Potomac River. PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700, operated as American Airlines Flight 5342, collided with the US Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk while approaching Reagan Washington National Airport. The collision killed all 67 people aboard both aircraft.

    What do you know

The number of people on the small commercial flight on Monday is not yet clear, but the NTSB estimates it was between three and four.

The two victims killed in the crash were adults, the Alaska Department of Public Safety (DPS) said. The injured were taken to a hospital in the Anchorage area, he added.

“We don't know how many people are on board and the unclear cause and injuries,” said department spokesman Austin McDaniel.

Alaska, according to my reading of Alaska, the plane appears to belong to Smoky Bay Air, a commercial air charter service based in Homer.

Newsweek has contacted Smokey Bay Air for comments outside of normal working hours.

A small plane crashed on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula last month, but three families survived the incident.

    What people are saying

The Alaska Department of Safety told ABC News: “A trooper from Alaska is at the scene of a plane crash in Nanwarek. Two adults were killed in the incident and one adult was seriously injured and ingested at Anchorage Regional Hospital.”

The Alaska Department of Transport and Public Facilities wrote in a previous Twitter X post. “Our idea lies with everyone involved.”

    What will happen next

Incident investigations are being conducted by the NTSB and DPS. Authorities will be made public when more information is available.
