Tropic Helicopters is excited to announce a new flight through Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Mel, offering guests an unparalleled opportunity to see Africa from the air. Since opening an office at USA River two years ago, tropical helicopters have been widely known as new pioneering Tanzania's exciting experiences and destinations. The long-term relationship with Tanapa (Tanzania National Park Service) opened up this exciting new opportunity, allowing tropical helicopters as the sole operators of helicopter flights across Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Mel. The discussion with Tanapa continues to allow the opening of high-end tourism developments at more remote destinations around Tanzania.

    Mount Kilimanjaro Flight

The flight takes passengers near the sturdy, towering peak of Mawenji, one of Kilimanjaro's most dramatic features. From there, the flight circle behind Mawenji's peak offers breathtaking views before continuing to take in the breathtaking views, while Kilimanjaro's finest peak, Kibo, can be seen passing 17,000 feet. The helicopter glides through the gaps between the peaks and introduces the huge scale of the mountain. If conditions are good, passengers enjoy a close-up view of the icy glaciers of the Resush Crater.

Tropic Helicopters have found the perfect place to land for hours, while Southwest Shira Plateau's “cathedral” offers panoramic views, perfect for picnic breakfasts and walks. You can see giant ground cells, lobelias, eternal flowers, and perhaps even bushbacks and Clipspringers.

The flight will either return to Tango Tango Zulu Base at USA River in Arusha or continue on Mount Mel.

    MERU Flight Mount

As Africa's fourth highest peak, Mount Mel dominates the landscape of Arusha National Park and is one of the largest strata in East Africa. This flight goes over the ancient forest of Afromontan. There, a giant Podocarpas tree clings to an incredibly steep slope. The flight circles the mountains clockwise, rising above the trees, floating over the giant heather wonderland, wrapped in hanging moss.

If it is made higher, the vegetation gives way to the slopes of the high altitude scree and is eroded by almost vertical runoff trenches. As you stare at the town of Arusha, almost 10,000 feet below, the extreme angle of the outer slopes of the volcano is breathtaking. Mount Mel's summit, “The Peak of Socialism,” droops precariously in its vast caldera. Across a mile from the base, pyramid-shaped ashcorns lined up towers above the caldera, making it perhaps Africa's most spectacular picnic location.

After a delicious breakfast, the flight continues, exploring the vertical walls of the caldera and landing on the banks of the Engiel River, making a seductive walk through the fairy tale landscape.

These two flights can be taken individually or combined. The best time to board these flights is early in the morning, with a departure at 7:00am. Depending on the length of the stop, the entire excursion lasts between 4-5 hours.

Tropic Helicopters can attract guests from Arusha Airport, Legendary Lodge, Tango Zulu Heliport on Dolly Estate, Kilimanjaro International Airport and Moshi Airport. Weather conditions in April and May may limit flights, but flights are available year-round.

We recommend 4 passengers for the ideal experience. This allows you to land. If there is no landing, it can accommodate up to six passengers.
