King Mohammed VI officially launched the construction of the Kenitra and Marakech high-speed railway lines. The 430-kilometer line connects major Moroccan cities such as Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech, significantly reducing travel time and strengthens the country's position as a leader in sustainable transport and continental infrastructure development.
The new HSR expansion, part of the $9.5 billion national railway plan, aims to support train speeds of up to 350 km/h, and will ultimately link Tangier to Marrakech within three hours. Local manufacturing goals and international partnerships such as Alstom, CAF and Hyundai Rotem are expected to be strong, with the project being expected to generate thousands of jobs and strengthen tourism and economic mobility across Morocco. The development is also in line with the country's green infrastructure agenda and could serve as a model for future rail projects elsewhere in Africa.
