This cute Spanish town is often enjoyed by locals, but it is something that Brits do not tend to visit. ExtREMADURA, Trujillo is Spain as you have never seen before, it is untouched and remains under the radar. The historic town offers a calm escape from the touristy coast, attracting Spaniards who prefer reliability over inclusiveness.

Located between the borders of Madrid and Portugal, this is an incredible destination for history lovers. Around this magnificent square you can see a palace introducing Spanish history.

But the best part of the town is its quiet nature. The mountains of souvenir shops and tourist attractions are bustling with visitors.

One must-see location is Trujillo Castle, built on a Roman foundation and offering a wide view of the plain below.

A Tripadvisor visitor said: “If you're visiting Trujillo, it's an essential place to visit. It's almost completely renovated and the visit is very comfortable.

“You can't miss visiting the chapel. The alert tower is not entirely open to visit, but it's big enough to understand the vastness of the castle.”

Another must-see location is Plaza Mayor Deljillo. A Tripadvisor visitor said: “Trujillo's Plaza Mayor is the epicenter of the city, and from there it is everything, with a palace of eras, churches, shops and restaurants.”

The Trujillo food scene is another popular aspect of the region. It is known for its hearty stew, paprika layered chorizo and creamy sheep cheese.

On top of this, the town's tapas bar has an atmosphere and is reasonably priced.

Although it is well connected by roads, trujillo is often referred to as the place where time has paused.

If you're looking for a place to stay, accommodation ranges from a converted monastery to a countryside guesthouse.

In a country known for its beach resorts and party islands, Trujillo offers a different experience than other parts of Spain.
