The British village is famous for its picturesque façades and quaint, winding streets. But one in particular is consistently named among the most beautiful in the UK and beyond.
Castleconve is a gorgeous Cotswold village located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and many news outlets and bloggers list it among the most beautiful villages in the world. The esteemed travel publication, Condé Nast travellers described it as “typically” English thanks to the historic building. According to the 2021 census, the village has a population of just 356 people, about 10 miles from Bath. I've seen its beauty featured in films such as Wolf Man, Stardust, Steven Spielberg's War Horse, and the original Doolittle film.
As typical of villages in this area, the house is mostly built using Cotswold stones, giving the façade a distinctive warm colour.
Castle Combe has several attractions registered in the 13th century. These include Market Cross and St Andrews Church.
The village also has many pubs, luxury hotels and golf courses.
Not only is it a very picturesque place, but the village also boasts a castle conveyor circuit at its border. Drivers can test different vehicles or try their own vehicles on the rally track.
The track hosts many events throughout the year, including car and motorcycle race days.
As summer changes to autumn, visitors can see the leaves turn into electric colours of gold and crimson. This is a sight that explains to tourists why they were chosen for a prestigious production, like Downton Abbey.
In the village, Condé Nast Traveller previously wrote:
“On summer days in the 21st century, you're more likely to come across smart residents walking a big breakfast from Castle Inn before embarking on some of the area's cleanest walks, which have been replenished with treats from local cafes.”
