Tourists have been warned by travel experts about an increase in flight prices to Rome as mourners gathered in the Italian capital to pay tribute to the late Pope Francis. Travel experts warned that there was a “surge in prices” to cities, and spoke only to the Express.
“We're looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Anton Radchenko, CEO of Airadvisor. “With the Pope's funerals scheduled to take place in Rome, we expect a sharp increase in the demand for flights to the city, particularly at Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA) airports. Currently, flights from Birmingham to Rome are not available at Skynerner from Thursday to Saturday. The oldest flight from Birmingham will start again on Sunday and start at £101 with JET2 at the time of writing.
Reasonable prices are available from other UK airports prior to the funeral. One of the cheapest flights departs from London Stansted on Friday at JET2 for £65.
At the time of writing, Ryanair offers a £59 flight from Manchester on the same day, while Jet2 offers a £57 flight from Leeds.
Tens of thousands of pilgrims arrived in Rome and attended Pope Francis' funeral.
A rise in the Air Force flight prices is also expected when Cardinals Conclaves meet to select a new Pope from May 5th.
Francis' ffin will be taken to St. Peter's Basilica at 9am (08:00 BST) on Wednesday and remain there until the public is buried until he is respected.
Prince William and Kiel Stage will be present, and Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky will also travel.
US President Donald Trump and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron have announced their intention to attend before the date is confirmed.
