If you're tired of Grey England and the busy 9-5 rat races, why not switch everything to the remote islands on the other side of the world? Workaway is currently promoting work to help keep older couples in their homes and gardens on the stunning Great Barrier Island in Hauraki Bay, New Zealand.
In exchange for a room, I work three hours a day to clean my garden, chop fires, feed my chickens, and help build the project. The list says, “There are beautiful beaches just a five minute walk away. Surfing, swimming, fishing, stargazes and bushwalks are some of the most popular things.
Great Barrier Island is a stunning part of the world – it's small but sized with an incredible rainforest, estuary, white cleaning beaches with incredible surfing opportunities, and a friendly community of locals and tourists all year round.
The list reads: “We live on a remote island, we create our own strength, live in very beautiful places, mainly embracing nature and attracting people who want to escape from the big city for a while.
“Most people here enjoy their stay and go out for new experiences. It's a friendly island that's easy to hit if you don't have a car.”
The listing is in exchange for the board of directors, but if you have the skills of a trader, you will have the opportunity to work paid.
People who stayed on the premises rave reviews not only how beautiful it is, but also the kindness of their hosts Robin and Malcolm.
One woman wrote: “We stayed with Robin and Malcolm for nine days, helping out with the laundry, feeding ducks and chickens. It was very comfortable in the lush garden.
“And my host was kind. I'm blessed to be able to stay here while still enjoying the island.”
Another said they were “gotten” because they had to leave at the end of their stay.
“If switching between 9-5 to work on the island sounds like a dream, you can see the list of jobs here. Make sure you have the right visa to work and travel in New Zealand.
