4590 Solar Panels South Africa Hospitality Industry Benchmark Set
The solar power plant, the same size as the four rugby fields, offers 60% of the power requirements of Shibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom, and sets a benchmark for the hospitality industry in South Africa.
The 2.5MW plant with 4590 solar panels will be installed at a cost of R54 million, making it the biggest investment in green energy to date by hospitality group Sun International. It covers 90% of the external parking lot in Shibaya and provides shade to visitors' cars while producing around 3,699 GWh of clean energy, significantly reducing Shibaya's reliance on traditional power sources.
Sibaya's maintenance manager Rabin Sakhadev said the purpose of the solar power plant is to be the purpose of a leisure and hospitality complex, “to reduce reliance on diesel to prevent emissions during load-equipped and reduce power consumption during normal periods.”
“By doing this, Sibaya is not only saving money, but also contributes to Sun International's environmental strategy, which aims to make energy efficient and cost-effective,” says Sahadev. With a lifespan of about 25 years, the factory was installed by the LTM Energy Group and sets new standards for commercial energy efficiency in the hospitality industry.
Virath Gobrie, general manager of Sibaya, said the solar power plant is a testament to Sibaya's commitment to sustainability and innovation. “By reducing carbon footprint and investing in renewable energy, we are strengthening our commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency, setting an industry example and contributing to South Africa's environmentally friendly future.”
