The turbo fan on the right side of the Airbus A330 started a fire on April 21 after the jet left the gate at Orlando International Airport, causing passengers to use the slides.

The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that the Delta Flight 1213 to Atlanta experienced an engine fire around 11:15 local time.

According to photos circulating on social media, the aircraft appears to have a registered N807NW. According to data from Cirium Fleets, the aircraft is powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4000 Turbofans.

“The Delta flight crew followed procedures to evacuate the passenger cabin when flames were observed in one tailpipe of the aircraft's two engines,” the airline says.

Delta apologised to the affected passengers, adding that with the help of a lift from “additional aircraft”, “working to bring customers to their final destination as soon as possible.”

Passengers returned to the terminal building and were provided with food and drinks.

The maintenance team will look at the A330, says Delta.

Ten flight attendants, two pilots and 282 passengers were on the wide body jet. No injuries have been reported, according to Delta.

Previous versions of this story misidentified the make and model of the engine of the A330.
